San Diego Zoo
The world renowned San Diego Zoo is one of the largest and most progressive zoos in the world with over 4,000 animals of more than 800 species. Spanning 107 acres in the heart of San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo is a must see for visitors of all ages. If you’re planning on visiting the zoo during your trip to San Diego, the Ocean Park Inn is the perfect choice for you and your whole family! You get all the fun of staying in the heart of Pacific Beach, but you’ll also be conveniently located just 10 miles away from possibly the most popular tourist attraction in all of San Diego.
Founded in 1916, the San Diego Zoo grew from exotic animal exhibits left over from the 1915 Panama-California Exposition and moved to its current Balboa Park location in 1922. The zoo has been an innovator from the start and was one of the first zoos to pioneer “cageless” exhibits, giving the animals more freedom and giving the visitors a richer experience. When you visit the Zoo, make sure to take the guided bus tour – it covers 75% of the park and is a great way to see and learn all about the various animals around the park. We also recommend riding the Skyfari – an overhead gondola ride that gives you a breathtaking aerial view of the park and all of San Diego. Stop by the Ocean Park Inn front desk for directions and more advice!
