Ready… Set… Run, Walk, Skip or Stroll in the LEGOLAND Kids Marathon Mile
Calling all Moms and Dads! It’s time to load up your youngsters and head to LEGOLAND for the annual Kids Marathon Mile (formerly known as the Keebler Kids Marathon). Run, walk, skip or stroll – whatever you please – through the LEGOLAND Park in Carlsbad, CA this Saturday, January 22nd.
This family-friendly event, which is scheduled in concurrence with the Carlsbad Marathon, was created for kids under the age of 12. However, everyone – moms, dads and big kids – are all welcome and encouraged to join in on the fun with a day of healthy activity at one of San Diego’s top attractions.
The Kids Marathon Mile kicks off at 8 a.m. PT at the starting line, which sits just steps from the LEGOLAND main entrance. This non-competitive race will take the kids around a one-mile loop through the park, finishing right where it began. Treats will be provided to all registered participants to include an array of great items such as a Kids Marathon Mile T-shirt, a 1-day pass to LEGOLAND and SEA LIFE Aquarium, an UltraStar Cinema movie pass and a coupon for a free popcorn. Participants will also be able to proudly display a shiny finisher’s medal when they complete the race.
If you’re planning on attending this year’s race, we suggest you make a fun-filled weekend of it and book a reservation at Ocean Park Inn today! After a long day of “racing” and site-seeing around the park, you will be able to truly appreciate relaxing on the beach, or taking refuge in your comfortable hotel room. Ocean Park Inn sits on a large stretch of land right on the Pacific Beach boardwalk in San Diego. A quick 25 minute drive is all that separates your stay in paradise from this energetic and fun-filled LEGOLAND park event.

The NFL Playoffs are finally here and although our Chargers didn’t make the cut, the odds are that our visiting guests still have a favorite team in contention. As the playoffs progress and we move towards that fateful Sunday in February, we here at OPI want to provide our out-of-town guests with a list of which San Diego hotspots are perfect for watching the big game. And even if you’re not that into football, you may want to visit these celebrations for the atmosphere–and to watch those famous Superbowl commercials! The following destinations are guaranteed to keep the wings hot and the drinks served until the final play of the game:
Typhoon Saloon is located in Pacific Beach, and is only a few blocks away from the Ocean Park Inn. This bar hosts the annual VAVI Superbowl party, and features several tables, multiple bars and a series of large flatscreen TVs for your viewing pleasure. This is the perfect destination if you are looking for a rowdy Superbowl party where the festivities will not stop with the end of the game.
McGregors Sports Bar
This classic San Diego bar is located near Qualcomm Stadium, and is a long-time favorite of San Diego locals for Sunday football and Chargers game tailgating. This bar features TVs surrounding the entire venue, several tables and food service, as well as pool tables and shuffleboard to keep you entertained during halftime.
The Tilted Kilt
The Tilted Kilt is located in Downtown San Diego near the Padres’ home venue Petco Park. The Kilt features a full menu, full bar and more TVs than one person could need at one time, including an entire wall dedicated to projecting the big game. The bar also features pool tables, shuffleboard and some of the most talked-about wait staff in San Diego.
Seau’s Mission Valley
Seau’s Mission Valley is a staple of the San Diego community. Started by famed Chargers linebacker Junior Seau, this sports bar is the ultimate football mecca. The venue features large and small TV screens scattered throughout, so if you get a seat, you’re sure to see the big game. Seau’s also features a full menu and even a sushi bar for one of the more unique Superbowl snacks. This place is the ultimate Superbowl destination and you won’t want to miss it.
If you are in town visiting us at the OPI for the game and you’re not sure where to spend those few hours of ultimate football ecstasy, be sure to make your way over to one of these destinations for the Superbowl party of the year!

The famous San Diego Zoo is world renowned for its wildlife facilities, so we’re sure most of our guests have heard of it, but many of you may not know that the San Diego Zoo also has a Safari Park located approximately 45 minutes from the original Zoo location! The Zoo’s Safari Park (formerly called the Wild Animal Park) is an immersive experience in the style of an African Safari. The park contains some of the most endangered and rare species on the planet, and with their park-wide tram ride you will have the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with these majestic animals. But if you’re looking for an even more unique and exciting way to spend your time at the Safari Park, be sure to look into the park’s one-of-a-kind Roar and Snore Sleepovers.
The Safari Park’s Roar and Snore Sleepovers allow guests to spend the night in the park listening to the sounds of the various breeds and types of animals. The program includes planned activities, an after-hours look at the animals, guided walks, a campfire program and a souvenir t-shirt. There are sleepover programs for all ages, from an adults-only sleepover, to juniors-only sleepovers and even sleepovers for the entire family! The park offers three tent types, which range from premium to classic to suit your adaptability to the outdoors. Prices vary from $30-$220 per person, and depend on age and tent class. Check out the Safari Park’s website at: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/park/special/roar_snore_sleepover to see all of the available options. When you’re in town staying at OPI and you have the desire to get out to the famous San Diego Zoo, consider the Safari Park as a unique alternative and sleep under the stars with all of the other animals that call the park home!

While San Diego’s climate may be temperate in comparison to most of the country, our residents and guests can still take part in some of the winter’s most coveted activities. For instance, Horton Plaza offers an amazing outdoor ice rink in the heart of downtown San Diego which allows you to indulge your inner figure skater, practice your hockey stops, or simply spend a fun-filled evening with the family. Horton Plaza is the perfect holiday setting, located between the Horton Plaza shopping mall and the NBC Building downtown. Where else can you get out and hit the ice wearing nothing but a t-shirt and shorts? If you choose to don this summer attire be sure to keep your balance, because our ice is equally as cold as our neighbor’s to the north!
Skating season began in November and runs until January 11th. So while you’re enjoying the view of the Pacific at Ocean Park Inn, load the kids up in the rental and head downtown to indulge in some winter fun. Prices are $14 for adults and $12 for children, and proceeds benefit the Children’s Hospital. Strap on your skates and hit the ice in gorgeous downtown San Diego!
