Ocean Park Inn is now officially taking donations for Marine Toys for Tots Foundation! As an incentive for everyone to get involved, we are giving our guests $10 off every night they stay with us if they bring a NEW toy that is in its original packaging. We at the Ocean Park Inn believe it is the time of year to give thanks and to give to those whom are in need.
Who are the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation?
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.
The principal Toys for Tots activity which takes place each year is the collection and distribution of toys in the communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located. In communities without a Reserve Unit, the campaign can be conducted by a Marine Corps League Detachment or group of men and women, generally veteran Marines, authorized by Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to conduct a local Toys for Tots campaign. Local Toys for Tots Campaign Coordinators conduct an array of activities throughout the year, which include golf tournaments, foot races, bicycle races and other voluntary events designed to increase interest in Toys for Tots, and concurrently generate toys and monetary donations.

When you think of the holidays, you probably begin to think of family, warm fires, good food, and…Pacific Beach?! Most people do not think about heading to the coast for the winter holidays, but Pacific Beach offers a wide variety of activities to bring the family-friendly fun of the holiday season to the gorgeous setting of the Southern Californian shoreline. The Pacific Beach Holiday Parade is an annual event that presents the sights and sounds of the season for the whole family. The parade features marching bands, clowns, color guards, immaculate floats and, of course, Santa Clause! The parade begins on Garnett Street, in between Cass and Haines streets. A true ‘Christmas village’ atmosphere is created with vendors selling holiday arts and crafts as well as food items for the hungry patrons celebrating the holiday spirit! The famous tree lighting will be this year’s highlight, set to take place on December 3rd.
After taking in all of the holiday delights at the parade, relax in your cozy room at the Ocean Park Inn. The Inn is located at 710 Grand Avenue in San Diego, and aside from being close to the holiday attractions, it is also close to many theme parks and tourist hot spots, assuring you will always have something to do to enjoy the area this holiday season. The Inn offers many family packages and rates, including the extended stay special, which is valid through December 30, 2011. The special includes 15% off of your entire stay when you book for three nights or more. You can’t beat the views of the rooms, including either a two-queen balcony view, or one king/queen oceanfront room. So what are you waiting for? Put the snow boots away and head on out to Pacific Beach for this year’s festivities!

Have you ever longed for the opportunity to head on over to Germany to sample several different types of beer and experience firsthand the exciting event known as Oktoberfest? Luckily, this year you won’t have to travel quite so far! Look no further than Southern California’s version of the famous event at this year’s Ocean Beach Oktoberfest. This event has become so popular that it has expanded to two nights, this year being held on Friday, October 7 from 4:00 – 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 8 from 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. In keeping with the Munich tradition, there will be 15 – 20 beers from local breweries available for sample. A happy hour will be featured from 5:00 – 6:31 p.m. (yes folks, 6:31 p.m.) where you can get two-for-one beers and brats. For your musical entertainment, there will be a Beer Garden Grand Slam ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest featuring a $4,000 prize. Feel free to enter your band, or help your favorite band win by participating in the voting. By this point, the only question still weighing on your mind is probably transportation. In the spirit of responsible drinking, there will be a free shuttle bus running every 30 minutes. The pick-up point for the shuttle will be near the 710 Beach Club, at 710 Garnet Avenue. The actual OB Oktoberfest is held at the intersection of Newport Avenue and Abbott Street, at the foot of the Ocean Beach pier. So all of you 21 and ups, come out and party like it’s Munich, 1810!
